Building Up Community.

Arriba works at the intersection of climate resilience, environmental justice, and community empowerment in rural San Mateo County

Our Community

The unincorporated coastal communities of Pescadero, Loma Mar, La Honda, and San Gregorio (the “South Coast”) are rich in natural capital, from abundant agricultural fields to protected watersheds and miles of recreational trails, and home to more than 4000 people. Our rural enclaves are unique, diverse, isolated, and facing many challenges related to aging infrastructure, climate-related disasters, and a fragile economic base.

Our Mission

Arriba works to uplift a unified community vision and voice through developing local champions to advocate and implement buildable solutions in key areas of energy and water infrastructure, active transportation and social connectivity, and climate resilience and adaptation.

Our Vision

Through our work and our partnerships, we can create a dynamic South Coast where connected communities, resilient infrastructure, and a robust, diversified economy create lasting prosperity for all.

Resilient Infrastructure

Together with our partners, we are working to increase reliabiity of the electric grid, provide more affordable clean energy alternatives, and strenthen resilience for domestic wells and small water systems.

Vibrant Economy

Agriculture and small independent businesses form the foundation of our economy and our cultural heritage. We support a local, living economy that honors the people who care for the land and all that it provides.

Empowered Community

Through bilingual listening sessions, kitchen table conversations, and facilitated forums, we convene local experts to turn community ideas into tangible projects.

Events

Workshops, community meetings, and fun events to bring community together.

What can we do next?

At the heart of Arriba’s work is a simple but powerful idea: the people closest to the problem should be central to the solution. Community voice drives the agenda, and collaborative action follows. We welcome ideas, problem-solving, and partnerships.
